Abstract
An experimental method is described for stimulation of the dorsal column to produce micturition. The cystometry and intravesical pressure measurement were performed after cord injury and electrical stimulation of the dorsal column to evacuate the bladder of the paraplegic cats has been studied.
The average bladder volume was 50.9¡¾3.6 §¢ and intravesical pressures was reduced to 69.3¡¾10.9 mmH_(2)O and expelled bladder content was only 75% in the 400 gcm cord trauma animals, and increased to 93% of the expelled bladder content by dorsal column stimulation. The average bladder volume was increased after injury, and bladder contraction pressure was reduced in. the 800 gcm cord trauma.
There was an increase of expelled bladder content up to 82% by dorsal column stimulation in 800 gcm trauma animals. The data reported suggest the ultimate feasibility of such a method for treating the neurogenic bladder.
